Cement mortar is widely used in roofs, basements, interior and exterior walls, swimming pools, flumes, pipe outlets, and other construction areas where waterproofing is required. However, pores and shrinkage cracks within the mortar can create pathways for water penetration.
For cement mortar applications requiring integral waterproofing, KJ-001B Crack-Resistant Siliceous Self-Healing Waterproof Mortar (Masterbatch) is designed to be added to cement mortar during mixing. Its active inorganic silicon promotes cement hydration and reacts with cement and water to form calcium silicate gel, helping improve mortar density, strength, and waterproofing performance while reducing shrinkage cracking.
1. Improve the Waterproofing Performance of Cement Mortar
One of the main functions of a waterproof mortar masterbatch is to improve the waterproofing performance of the mortar itself.
KJ-001B is incorporated into cement mortar during mixing rather than being applied solely as a surface treatment. Its active inorganic silicon reacts with cement and water to form calcium silicate gel, which helps fill internal voids and reduce pathways for water penetration.
This process helps create a denser mortar structure and supports integral waterproofing.
Reaction process: Internal voids in mortar → calcium silicate gel formation → reduced pathways for water penetration → improved waterproofing performance.
2. Improve Mortar Density and Mid-to-Late-Stage Strength
The internal density of cement mortar affects its ability to resist water penetration. Voids within the mortar can provide pathways for water to move through the material.
KJ-001B helps improve mortar density through calcium silicate gel formation. The product is also designed to enhance the mortar's mid-to-late-stage strength.
These functions make it a potential option for projects where both waterproofing performance and mortar strength are important considerations.
3. Reduce Shrinkage Cracking and Support Micro-Crack Self-Healing
Shrinkage cracks can compromise the continuity of a mortar waterproofing layer and create potential pathways for water penetration.
KJ-001B is designed to help reduce shrinkage cracking while improving mortar density and mid-to-late-stage strength. According to its stated product characteristics, it also provides self-healing effects for micro-cracks.
This supports the continuity of the mortar's waterproofing function and helps reduce the risk of water penetration through small cracks.
Functional process: Shrinkage cracking → potential water penetration pathways → reduced crack shrinkage and micro-crack self-healing → improved continuity of waterproofing performance.
4. Support Waterproofing Under Positive and Negative Water Pressure
Waterproofing requirements vary depending on the direction of water pressure acting on a structure. KJ-001B can be considered for applications involving both positive and negative water pressure.
This allows the product to be evaluated for different waterproofing conditions in building structures. By incorporating the waterproofing function into the mortar itself, it provides an approach to improving resistance to water penetration from different directions.
Actual suitability should be confirmed according to the project's water-pressure conditions and application requirements.
5. An Integral Waterproofing Solution for Cement Mortar
For cement mortar structures exposed to water, surface waterproofing alone may not address internal voids, shrinkage cracks, and mortar density. KJ-001B takes an integral approach by being incorporated directly into cement mortar.
Through its active inorganic silicon component and calcium silicate gel formation, the masterbatch is designed to improve mortar density, enhance mid-to-late-stage strength, reduce shrinkage cracking, and support micro-crack self-healing.
For roofs, basements, walls, swimming pools, flumes, pipe outlets, and other mortar-based construction applications, KJ-001B offers an option for improving the mortar's integral waterproofing performance.
Before use, confirm the recommended dosage, mixing procedure, application conditions, and project-specific performance requirements with the product supplier.
